Where do the colors, “Blood and Gold”, of the Lens logo come from?

While the red and yellow of RC Lens often evoke the blood of miners and the gold of coal, the historical reality is quite different. When it was founded in 1906, the club played in green and black, a tribute to Lens' Place Verte and mining activity.

After a hiatus in America after the First World War – with a jersey in the colors of the United States – the club finally adopted red and yellow in 1923. An idea of ​​its president at the time, inspired by the ruins of the Saint-Léger church, a vestige of the Spanish occupation.

These colors are in fact those of the Spanish flag, chosen to pay homage to this historical period... but also to evoke the fighting spirit of bullfighting, between pride, passion and confrontation.
