Where will the next football World Cups take place?

After 2022 in Qatar, are you wondering where the next football World Cups will take place? We'll tell you more about the next three editions, which will be unprecedented, to say the least, due to their format in several different countries and even on different continents!

The 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico

For this 23rd edition of the men's football world cup, FIFA has awarded the competition to three countries from the American continent : the United States, Canada and Mexico! The three countries, united around the same file, were awarded the competition against Morocco's candidacy.

The premier football competition will take place in 16 host cities, including Vancouver, New York, Miami, and Mexico City. Beyond the uniqueness of this World Cup, which will take place in three countries, the competition will also be marked by its format: it will be the first football World Cup with 48 teams (compared to 32 previously). This means that 104 matches will take place in this cup, with the first match scheduled for June 11, 2026.

The 2030 World Cup in Spain, Portugal and Morocco...but not only

Just like the 23rd edition, this 24th football World Cup will take place in three host countries! A little extra twist: the competition will take place on two different continents: Europe with Spain and Portugal, and Africa with Morocco.

But that's not all, because 2030 will mark the 100th anniversary of the World Cup, and for the occasion, FIFA has decided that 3 matches will take place in South American cities (a nod to the first edition): Asuncion (Paraguay), Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Montevideo (Uruguay).

So that's a total of 6 countries and 3 continents that the players will cross!

Note that these six countries automatically qualify for the competition. Here are the top six teams of the 48 that will compete in the 2030 World Cup.
