Marcel-Saupin, Le Ray, Chaban-Delmas, legendary stadiums that have amazed thousands of fans, have seen the birth and growth of the country's greatest football clubs, and yet they have been abandoned, redeveloped, or even destroyed. Often deserted in favor of larger, more modern venues far from city centers, today we will focus on the fate of these stadiums of yesteryear.
Marcel-Saupin: the former FC Nantes stadium
The Canaries didn't always play at the Stade de La Beaujoire ! A large part of the Nantes club's games were played at the Stade Marcel-Saupin until 1984. They also won six French championship titles there.
Located on the Malakoff quays, the stadium, built in 1937, is now home to the FC Nantes women's team and reserve team, but with a significantly reduced capacity. Three of these four stands were demolished in 2006 to make way for new infrastructure.
Chaban-Delmas: the former stadium of the Girondins de Bordeaux
The Chaban-Delmas stadium, also known as Parc Lescure, has seen the heyday of the Girondins de Bordeaux and legendary moments in French football. The club played its last match there in May 2015 and then moved to the very modern Matmut Atlantique stadium.
Since then, the stadium has undergone renovation to accommodate the city's rugby club, Union Bordeaux-Bègles, which in turn has written a piece of its history there and thrills every weekend in front of a crowd that is still very present.
Grimonprez-Jooris: the former LOSC stadium
The Grimonprez-Jooris stadium, which hosted the Dogues for nearly 30 years, has been completely demolished since 2011! Since then, the site, which was supposed to be redeveloped, has experienced many twists and turns and has been a source of discord in the municipality, leaving the site vacant.
Stade du Ray: the former home of OGC Nice
Occupied by the Aiglons from 1927 to 2013, the Stade du Ray has since been demolished. Only the eastern corner of the southern stand and the ticket office for this stand were preserved to preserve a symbol of this legendary Nice sporting venue. These vestiges of the past are now located at the heart of an eco-district.

Other elite football clubs could also say goodbye to their legendary stadium in the coming years, starting with PSG, Stade Rennais and Stade Brestois 29. On the other hand, other clubs have decided to modernize their stadium, such as Racing Club de Strasbourg, whose work on the Meinau has begun.
